7 Childhood Movies That Weirded Me Out

I know these movies are pretty harmless.  They were made for kids.  They are not suppose to be scary.  But, some of the scenes in these movies gave me the creeps.  I am not sure what it was.  Maybe it is the time period in which they were made.  The way they made cartoons back then had an eerie feel to them.  They are from a time period when almost any man in a movie looks like a child molester.

Don’t get me wrong.  I loved these movies.  But, it was kind of like watching a tornado approach.  You know you want to run, but at the same time you can’t help but watch.

The Last Unicorn

This movie is full of creepiness.  The Red Bull.  The Harpy.  King Haggard.  The wine loving skeleton.  Mommy Fortuna.  These characters reak of freak.  By the way, the Harpy has exposed human like breasts, great for the kiddies.

The Dark Crystal

What are those big beetle things that come and take the Podlings away?  If you guessed Garthim you would be correct.  You would have also brought up a memory that makes me shutter.  Poor Podlings.  Then they get to have their essence sucked out and drank by Skeksis.  Enough said!

The Frog Prince

Such a sweet movie.  What could be unnerving about a movie with Kermit?  Well for starters, Sweetums wants to bash the frogs brains in.  His oversized head is already enough to worry about, now he wants to squirt Kermits blood all over the room.  Aunt Taminella and her snaggletooth is a bit on the creepy side if you ask me.  Maybe I am overreacting, but there was just something about her.  Even the end where the frogs jump all over Aunt Taminella and break the ball in the handle of her cain weirded me out.  Anytime a Muppet plaque of frogs attacks, it gets a child’s attention.

Watership Down

This movie still freaks me out today.  I am not so sure this is for kids.  The rabbits deal with serious problems, they fight, they bleed, they die.  The blood is gory too.  They don’t hold back.  Plus this movie throws in some gruesome scenes, where you know?  Fields fill with blood.  Typical nightmarish stuff for small children.

Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure

This one is not so bad.  But, there are 2 parts that would make me squirm.  The part in the truck with Large Marge where her face goes all ghoulish.  Also, the parts where Pee Wee dreams doctor and nurse clowns are destroying his bike.  Clowns baby!  Clowns!

The Hobbit

Lets just say Gollum is much scarier in this cartoon than he was in The Lord of The Rings movie.  This cartoon is dark I say, dark!

Return to Oz

Watch this and tell me The Wheelers don’t give you the heebie jeebies!  They haunt me to this day.
